A tunnel boring machine, (TBM), is used to excavate tunnels with a circular cross section through a variety of soil and rock strata. They may also be used for micro-tunnelling. They can bore through anything from hard rock to soft ground. Tunnel diameters can range from 1 meter (3.3ft, with pipe jacking machine or micro-TBM) TO 18 meters(59ft) till date.
